“One Day One Ward” by NHS staff, Caro C (music) and Kim Wiltshire (writer/poet).
I recently co-produced a verbatim poem set to music with voice contributions from NHS nursing staff at Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Manchester Foundation Trust. The piece was commissioned by Lime Arts – Lime’s mission is to embed the arts and creativity in the culture of healthcare at Manchester Foundation Trust to improve the health and wellbeing of staff and patients.
Found sounds include a patient buzzer which happens to be the note of F so I could build the harmonic framework around this.
It was so humbling to hear the nursing staff give accounts of their days, while the dedication to their work shines through. The staff felt honoured and respected by the music I created which was also really rewarding and a tiny way to show appreciation for all our NHS staff have done to get through the pandemic thus far.
I hope you enjoy listening to “One Day, One Ward”
