Amidst the crazy wonderful of it all, I am pleased to announce our Delia Derbyshire 80th birthday electronic music heritage project thanks for being awarded Heritage Lottery Fund support. To celebrate what would have been Delia’s 80th birthday on 5 May 2017, we will be animating the DD archive and increasing awareness of and engagement with what we think is a bit of a gem of electronic music heritage here in Manchester, UK.

We want to provide ways to be inspired by Delia’s wonderful work and technically astute and creative working methods. There’ll be public arts events – DD Day 2017 at Band on the Wall in MCR and a DD Day event hosted by Full of Noises Festival in Barrow – as well as developing our education work with an 8 week project which will include a short film about Delia and her archive by the kids. Lots more Delia-n delights in store!

I instigated an initiative responding to the fascinating archive of electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire (1937-2001) after I heard it had been donated to the University of Manchester back in 2007. DD Day is now a registered charity with trustees including the Delia Derbyshire Estate and I work as the project and programme manager. More info at Delia Derbyshire Day.
