I’ve enjoyed producing more podcasts for Sound On Sound magazine this year, as part of their Electronic Music channel. Here’s a backlog of a few nerdy chats with some fascinating artists dedicated to doing their thing…
Jlin started out producing footwork/juke on Fruity Loops software as part of the Chicago scene and has now developed her own highly intricate sound, with driving percussion and post rave samples. You might just find the likes of Bjork and Kronos Quartet in there too. It was amazing to hear of her journey, discipline and passion for what she does.
Jason Singh started out as a beatboxer and DJ and is now more dedicated to being a sound artist, composer rooted in the natural world. He co-creates music with birds, trees and mushrooms using MIDI Sprout, Plantwave and Ableton Live. I know Jason from his Manchester days, so it was great to catch up on his amazing adventures in sound and music.
I was pleased to finally be able to represent the Drum and Bass, jungle communities with this one. It was great to hear from Krust about his part in the early days of jungle and Drum and Bass in Bristol and how the genre has evolved since then. We got under the hood of DnB production by unpacking the process for Krust making his most recent album.
