On the first anniversary of his passing, I wanted to create a tribute podcast to the composer, pianist, electronic music pioneer and environmental campaigner Ryuichi Sakamoto. And so we found 3 musicians who worked with him and shared their insights into his working methods and passion for music, creativity and collaboration.
The work of Sakamoto-San has been with me since I stumbled across his album “Anger/Grief” (1998) on cassette tape in a library. I listened to it on repeat. The humanity in it inspired me. His music continues to do so. I was especially moved his final performance filmed at a lush studio in Tokyo, with only piano. Sublime.
This podcast was produced for Sound On Sound magazine, as part of their Electronic Music channel.
