I’m quite stoked and very grateful to be part of a new creative endeavour called “Hayling Stories”.

Initiated and led by writer and spoken word artist Michelle Green, Hayling Stories is a collaborative team endeavour tapping into impressions and inherited memories of the island of Hayling (near Portsmouth) to ultimately create an interactive digital map with a short story collection and accompanying audio/sound design.

This Arts Council England supported project will be in 2 phases. This first phase culminates in live events, recorded short stories and a digital platform. Live events are coming up at DURHAM LIT FEST (7 OCT), HAYLING LIBRARY (21 OCT) and IABF, MANCHESTER (26 OCT) – with grand piano and live synth playing in MCR. Visit the website of Michelle Green for more info.

I’ve been relishing tuning into sounds I met while on Hayling, synthesising them with a synthesiser – it was too windy to snatch too many recordings! – sculpting textures, trusting my impressions communicated with my vocal & piano expressions. Responding to a place I don’t know but can channel my experience through.
